This qualification is the benchmark qualification for all electricians who are seeking to gain more of an insight into this important British Standard.
City and Guilds 2382 is widely recognised throughout the electrical industry as the “must have” qualification, as a requirement to show that an individual has a thorough understanding of how to navigate BS 7671.
If you are involved in domestic, commercial or industrial electrical installations, this qualification is widely regarded as the mandatory requirement for anyone involved in the electrical installation industry or is likely to be supervising those that are carrying out electrical installation work.
Any individual working within the electrical industry who needs to prove that they have the necessary underpinning knowledge of the 18th Edition of BS 7671, may be required to show evidence by way of having a thorough understanding and an awareness of all the requirements of the Wiring Regulations, and that is achieved by being awarded this City and Guilds 2382-22 qualification.
Although there are no pre-entry requirements to attend this course, it is expected that prospective candidates have prior personal knowledge of electrical theory and terminologies, together with a basic understanding of electrical installation principles and associated circuits.
Any individuals involved in electrical installations; whether they are in the domestic, commercial or commercial sector of the electrical industry.
Successful candidates will gain the nationally recognised qualification for the 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations; City and Guilds 2382-22.
The course will include the following;
- An introduction to BS 7671; the Wiring Regulations, and its relationship to other legislation within the electrical industry
- An introduction of how the regulation numbering system works
- How to effectively index and navigate through the Parts and Appendices of BS 7671, including:
- Part 1: Scope, object and fundamental principles
- Part 2: Definitions
- Part 3: Assessment of general characteristics
- Part 4: Protection for safety
- Part 5: Selection and erection of equipment
- Part 6: Inspection and testing
- Part 7: Special installations or locations
- Part 8: Functional requirements
The sessions will also include some discussion of typical examples of how and where particular requirements within BS 7671 may be applied.
The examination consists of 60 multiple-choice questions. This is an ‘open book’ examination, with permitted reference to BS 7671:2018+A2:2022, and is carried out using the online City and Guilds e-volve system.
Candidates are given their results at the conclusion of the examination session.

Please note that copies of BS7671:2018+A2:2022, taken into examinations cannot contain the following:
- Sample exam questions, answers or diagrams
- Any writing in the regulations or accompanying written notes which indicate possible answers within a given section.
- Notes, diagrams or any content that may, in anyway seeks to advantage the candidate in answering questions within the examination.
